Meghan Markle revealed Kate Middleton ‘made her cry’ before wedding to Prince Harry

Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s continued absence from Sandringham at Christmas, largely due to their estrangement from the royal family, a clip from Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey has resurfaced, drawing renewed attention.

In the interview, Meghan, later joined by Harry, opened up about her challenging experiences as a member of the royal family. She revealed she had faced suicidal thoughts due to unrelenting public scrutiny and shared her claim that a royal family member had questioned how “dark” her son Archie’s skin might be.

Meghan also addressed rumors of a falling-out with her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, Prince William’s wife.

Oprah asked directly: “Did you make Kate cry?”

Meghan replied: “No.”

This question stemmed from media reports suggesting that Meghan had made Kate cry prior to the royal wedding. Meghan, however, clarified that the opposite was true.

Oprah followed up: “Was there a situation where she might have cried, or where she could have cried?”

“No, no,” Meghan responded, adding: “The reverse happened. And I don’t say that to be discouraging to anyone because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised, and she brought me flowers and a note.”

Meghan emphasized: “She did what I would have done, which is take accountability.” However, she expressed shock that months after the wedding, a reversed version of the story had made headlines.

The Duchess disclosed that the disagreement had stemmed from flower girls’ dresses—a matter detailed further by Harry in his memoir, Spare, published in 2020.

According to Harry, Kate insisted that the “French couture” dresses needed to be remade. Meghan, inundated with wedding preparations and dealing with the chaos surrounding her father, had suggested the dresses be altered by the on-hand tailor.

Harry recounted a text exchange between Meghan and Kate. Kate reportedly texted: “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on at home.”

Meghan responded: “Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8am. Here. At KP. Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing?”

Kate replied: “No, all the dresses need to be remade.”

Harry added that Meghan reminded Kate of the turmoil she was facing with her father at the time, but Kate remained focused on the dresses, saying: “I’m well aware, but the dresses. And the wedding is in four days!”

Meghan’s final response was reportedly: “I’m not sure what else to say. If the dress doesn’t fit, then please take Charlotte to see Ajay. He’s been waiting all day.” Kate ended the exchange with a brief: “Fine.”

This exchange, as revealed in Spare, shed light on the tensions leading up to the wedding, offering additional context to Meghan’s comments during her Oprah interview.
