Jill Biden penned a note for Melania Trump as she’s getting ready to move back into the White House for her second term as First Lady.
Following last November’s presidential election, Donald Trump has been voted for his second mandate as POTUS and will soon be sworn in as president.
Ahead of 20 January – when Trump will officially become the 47th president of the United States – current First Lady Jill Biden reached out to Melania Trump for a customary White House tradition, but her invite was reportedly declined.
In an exit interview with the Washington Post, Jill revealed Melania did not attend a tea she had invited her to at the White House. As this is a long-held tradition for incoming and outgoing First Ladies during the presidential transition, Melania’s refusal prompted Jill to write her a note to check in on her.
“I congratulated her and I offered help,” Jill said of her message, but didn’t immediately hear back from Melania. The two First Ladies ended up meeting at Jimmy Carter’s state funeral on 9 January, with Jill confirming Melania thanked her ‘during pleasantries’.
Speaking on returning to the White House for the second time, Melania hinted at her first FLOTUS transition not being smooth as ‘information was withheld’ from her and her husband.
“The first time was challenging, we didn’t have much of the information,” the incoming First Lady told Fox & Friends about the first Trump presidential mandate in 2017, lamenting she didn’t receive enough support as she moved into the White House for the first time.
“The information was withheld from us by the previous administration,” Melania continued. “But this time I have everything… it’s a very different transition this time, second time around.”
It seems this time things will take a different turn for Melania, who previously emphasized her role as First Lady by issuing a statement to remind everyone that she’s more than just Donald Trump’s spouse.
“Maybe some people see me as just a wife of the President, but I’m standing on my own two feet, independent, I have my own thoughts, I have my own ‘yes’ and ‘no’,” she stated during an interview with Fox News.
Melania is set to be present at Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Joining her will be Jill Biden alongside her husband, current President Joe Biden, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris, who was one of Trump’s challengers in the last election.
Also confirmed to attend are former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton, who is not only a former First Lady and Secretary of State but also Donald Trump’s Democratic opponent in 2016, will accompany her husband. However, reports suggest that Michelle Obama, the former First Lady, will not be attending the event.
