Influencer Reportedly Died While Live-Streaming Himself Eating Poisonous Centipedes

A content creator tragically died after filming himself eating poisonous centipedes and geckos.

On July 18, 2019, a 35-year-old man, surnamed Sun, live-streamed himself on the platform DouYu – which is one of China’s largest live-streaming platforms.

During the stream, the influencer spun a wheel, which would choose what he had to eat or drink depending on where it landed, according to the Daily Mail.

The wheel was marked with shocking items that were not to be consumed such as poisonous centipedes, geckos, and mealworms as well as tamer items like vinegar, eggs, and beer.

Two days after the live stream, authorities revealed that they found Sun unconscious in his home in Hefei, Anhui Province. They were alerted by Sun’s girlfriend after she went to check in on him.

The content creator showed no vital signs, and his computer was still in live-stream mode. In addition to this, the food items used in his sessions were on the desk in his room.

It has been reported that Sun’s account was followed by 15,000 people on DouYu. His videos have now been removed from the platform.

Eating centipedes is strongly advised against.

Officials did not explain during their investigations what type of geckos and centipedes the streamer ate, however, it goes without saying that eating any kind is never a smart move.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a warning to people, stating that reptiles, like geckos, can be carriers for salmonella. They have also advised people to take precautions when handling them.

The center also noted that pet owners should wash their hands after coming into contact with the creators. Furthermore, it is urged that you keep them away from areas where food is prepared.

“Don’t kiss or snuggle with reptiles and amphibians because this can increase your risk of getting sick,” the CDC says. “Persons who think they might have become ill from contact with reptiles should talk to a healthcare provider.”

Law enforcement ruled out foul play in the influencer’s death but was still investigating the cause. No further update has been shared.
