The Duchess of Sussex, 43, has previously spoken about her greatest regret during her time as a senior royal.

Meghan Markle once disclosed her biggest regret from her tenure as a senior member of the Royal Family.

After stepping down from their roles as working royals in 2020, Meghan, 43, and Prince Harry, 40, relocated to California to pursue financial independence.

While their departure initially caused a stir in the UK, it was their interview with Oprah Winfrey a year later that truly shocked audiences worldwide.

During the interview with the renowned US presenter, Meghan and Harry unveiled several startling revelations about their experiences within the Royal Family, including discussions among family members regarding the skin color of Prince Archie before his birth.

Meghan also expressed regret over trusting that the Royal Family would shield her from negativity, explaining that things deteriorated after her star-studded wedding to Prince Harry in Windsor in 2018.

Speaking to Oprah, the duchess said, “That was really hard to reconcile, becau

se it was only once we were married and everything started to really worsen that I came to understand that not only was I not being protected, but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family.

“They weren’t willing to tell the truth to protect me and my husband.”

Later in the interview, she added, “I regret believing that, because I think had I really seen that that wasn’t happening, I would have been able to do more, but I think I wasn’t supposed to see it.

“I wasn’t supposed to know, and now because we’re actually on the other side, we’ve actually not just survived but are thriving.”

While the Palace typically refrains from commenting on interviews, Queen Elizabeth II issued a statement shortly after Meghan’s interview with Oprah aired.

It read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
