After a period of use, the mattress will accumulate a lot of dirt, sweat… creating an unpleasant smell and also becoming an ideal environment for bacteria to grow. Changing the bed sheet and mattress cover regularly is necessary. However, the mattress itself is very difficult to clean deeply. Many people take the mattress outside to dry in the sun to kill bacteria. This method is effective but cannot remove all the dirt on the mattress.
To clean the mattress at home, you can apply the following method.
Change the mattress cover regularly
To ensure that the mattress is always kept clean, you need to regularly change the mattress cover, bed sheet, pillowcase, blanket cover…
Clean the mattress surface
Each time you change the bed sheet or mattress cover, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up all the impurities on the surface as well as the grooves, crevices, and seams on the mattress.
For common stains on the mattress surface, you can dilute the dishwashing liquid with clean water and put it in a spray bottle. Spray directly on the stain on the mattress and wait at least 5-10 minutes. Then, use a clean cloth to wipe the stain several times to absorb the excess solution and remove the stain.
You can also use hydrogen peroxide to clean stubborn stains on the mattress.
If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner, you can prepare a dust brush to sweep away the dirt on the mattress surface. However, a vacuum cleaner will clean better and take less effort.
Use baking soda to clean and deodorize the mattress
Baking soda has the ability to absorb moisture and deodorize very well. You can sprinkle baking soda on the entire surface of the mattress. Leave it like that for a few hours or overnight, the baking soda will absorb moisture, absorb dirt and deodorize the mattress.
Then, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up all the baking soda that has been spread on the mattress.
Don’t forget to turn the mattress upside down and perform the same cleaning process.
Normally, you should clean the mattress once every 3-6 months. If you don’t use it for a long time, use a specialized plastic bag to cover the mattress tightly to prevent dust and water from sticking to the mattress surface.
