My SIL Tried to Destroy My Career, So I Took Down Her Wedding

Was Wrong for Ruining My Sister-in-Law's Wedding After She Tried to Destroy My Career?

Two years ago, my sister-in-law Kate ruined my life. I (32F) was up for a major promotion at my law firm to become the youngest female partner, and she blew it. She (29F) had always been jealous of my success and constantly made snide comments about how I was “married to my job” and “compensating for something.”

The week before my final interview, Kate somehow got access to my work email. She sent out a mass email to the entire firm, including all the partners, with fake “evidence” that I had been falsifying billable hours and embezzling from client accounts. It was all utter rubbish, but it triggered an ethics investigation that put my promotion on hold.

I confronted Kate, and she smugly admitted what she’d done. “Maybe now you’ll have time for family instead of chasing status,” she sneered. I was livid and told her she was dead to me. Thankfully, the investigation cleared me of any wrongdoing, but the ordeal was humiliating and my promotion was delayed by 6 months.

Fast-forward to last weekend. Kate was getting married to my husband’s college roommate, so I reluctantly agreed to attend for my husband’s sake. The wedding invite specified a cream/off-white dress code for all female guests. I thought this was weird, but whatever.

The night before the wedding, I got a text from Kate.

Kate: “Just a reminder to wear cream tomorrow! Can’t wait to see you :)”

Me: “Got it.”

Kate: “I know we’ve had our differences, but I hope we can start fresh. It would mean so much to have you there as family.”

Me: “Sure, Kate. Fresh start.”

I stared at my phone, seething. A “fresh start”? After what she did? Hell no. That’s when I hatched my plan for revenge.

The next day, I showed up to the wedding in a floor-length, pure white gown with a small train. When Kate saw me, her jaw dropped. She stormed over, hissing, “What the hell are you wearing? You look like a bride!”

I smiled sweetly, “Oh, I’m so sorry! The invite said cream or off-white. Is this not cream enough?”

Kate’s face turned red, “You know damn well that’s not cream! You’re trying to upstage me!”

I feigned innocence, “I would never! I’m just following the dress code. Should I leave?”

Kate glared daggers at me but growled, “No, just… stay out of the photos.”

Throughout the ceremony, I could see Kate fuming every time she glanced my direction. At the reception, I made sure to mingle and dance prominently. I even caught the bouquet, much to Kate’s visible rage.

The final nail in the coffin came during the father-daughter dance. I “accidentally” bumped into the DJ booth, causing the music to cut out. In the silence, Kate’s dad was heard clearly saying, “I still think you rushed into this, honey. Are you sure he’s the one?”

Chaos erupted. Kate burst into tears, her new husband looked wounded, and both families started arguing. In the commotion, I slipped out unnoticed.

The next day, my phone blew up with angry messages from Kate and my in-laws. Apparently, the wedding devolved into a huge fight and Kate and her husband were now “taking some space” from each other.

My husband is furious and says I went too far. But I maintain that Kate got what she deserved after nearly tanking my career.

I am looking for guidance on how to move forward. Help me!
