Many people believe that air conditioning is the biggest energy consumer in their homes, but there are other devices that also use significant amounts of electricity.

1. Induction Cookers and Electric Cookers

In today’s modern homes, induction cookers and electric cookers are essential appliances. While they are safer than gas stoves, which carry risks of fire or explosion, they do consume a lot of electricity. It’s advisable to unplug these cookers after use to ensure safety and save energy.

Experts note that if an induction cooker is left plugged in continuously, it will still draw power. A single cooker can use between 85-95 kWh, and a double cooker between 170-190 kWh per month, depending on the model and capacity. Therefore, unplugging the device after use can help reduce electricity consumption.

2. Water Heaters

Water heaters are frequently used during cold weather, particularly in the winter, making them essential for many households. Most families in the North use 30-liter tanks, which can serve 2-4 people daily but consume a significant amount of electricity, sometimes more than air conditioners.

For those who turn on the heater only before use, the average consumption is about 70-80 kWh per month. Families that keep it on continuously may see usage reach 230-340 kWh per month. Turning off the water heater after use and unplugging it can help save electricity and enhance safety.

3. Hot/Cold Water Dispensers

Many households have switched to hot and cold water dispensers instead of traditional electric kettles due to their convenience. These dispensers provide hot water in winter and cold water in summer, making them especially useful for those who drink tea, coffee, or eat instant noodles frequently.

However, to maintain the desired water temperature, these dispensers use about 700-1,200 W, depending on the manufacturer and capacity. If left plugged in continuously, they can consume 40-100 kWh per month. It is recommended to unplug the water dispenser at night to save energy and reduce the risk of fire.

4. Clothes Dryers

During the rainy and humid seasons, particularly in spring in the North, many families rely on dryers to keep clothes fresh and clean. However, dryers are also high energy consumers. The most common models, with an 8 kg capacity, can use 75-140 kWh per month if used daily for 1-2 hours. Advanced models with heat pumps consume less power.

5. Desktop Computers

Desktop computers, alongside laptops, are common in many households. Their power consumption ranges from 35-450 W, with some high-performance models reaching up to 1,000 W. On average, desktop computers consume over 70 kWh per month, according to EVN. To conserve energy, it’s recommended to unplug computers when not in use.

By being mindful of these appliances and unplugging them when not needed, households can reduce their electricity consumption and lower their energy bills.
