It can be hard to toss old or broken furniture you love. Instead of throwing it out, reimagine the piece. Here’re some DIY furniture hacks you should try.
Gym lockers
Old gym lockers can be repurposed and turned into a living room storage system, thanks to nifty ideas from Maple Creek Living. The lockers can be cut, power washed, and painted before being topped with some pallet wood.
Sewing machine table
A DIYer from Reuse Repurpose Upcycle took an old sewing cabinet, attached a shelf unit, covered the shelves with paper and painted it red.
Old cart
Some of the oldest and most hard-working pieces can be transformed into works of art. An old cart can now be used as a flower planter with instructions from Texas 811.
Broken table legs
Time Boyden of Tim Boyden Art took some broken table legs and attached them to a slice of maple and created a small stool. The stool would be a great addition to a kitchen pantry where you may need help with hard-to-reach items or as an extra side table in a den.
Broken mirror stand
A necklace organizer can be made from an old mirror stand, according to The Joy of Repurposing. The glass can be removed and the stand can be painted to match the bedroom walls.
Old patio furniture
Reuse Repurpose Upcycle attached legs to the underside of a trunk to raise it up to table height and it’s now used on a patio.
Clock
Even that old clock can have a new life. Try using some chalkboard paint to create a board for messages reminders, like this one from Love, Pasta and a Toolbelt.
Basket footstool
Don’t toss that old basket just because one piece has come undone. Instead, try using some fun fabric to turn it into a footstool, like this one from Tickled Red, with storage space for lap crafts or magazines.
Piano
Turn that out-of-tune piano into a one-of-a-kind headboard. After dissembling the piano, Hands-On Woodworker used some plywood and screws to reinforce the joints. This furniture hack took approximately 30 hours.
Dining chairs
Grab your favorite paint color and give those old farmhouse chairs a new purpose. Two broken dining chairs from Rust-Oleum Make It Yours were transformed into pretty planters.
Train table
It took some quality paint and a little work from Ocean Front Shack, but an old train table now provides extra storage for books and puzzles and is a great addition to a child’s bedroom.
Antique dresser
For this furniture hack from Reuse Repurpose Upcycle, a little paint and some imagination can turn an old dresser into a media console. The console has plenty of room for storage and has updated hardware for a new look.
